The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and introducing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys
The preview shows Bonnie — who received Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie acquires her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.
Woody's Return: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
